Brazil was the home of Alberto Santos-Dumont, who in 1906 performed the first fully unassisted takeoff. Aboard one of his aircrafts, the 14-Bis, Santos-Dumont was the first person to take off, fly and land without the use of external assistance. He is known as the "Father of Aviation". His house in Petrópolis, in Rio de Janeiro (state) is now a little museum in his honor.
